John serves as both Youth Pastor and Worship Leader. John is originally from south Kansas City, where he spent his younger years watching Chiefs games and eating barbecue. He has a BS in Christian Education from Hannibal-LaGrange College in northeast Missouri, where he was also involved in drama, music and general mischief. In 2000 he married Haley, who has since turned him into a cultured man. John came to KHBC after serving four years in the Army as a Chaplain Assistant. Additionally, he is currently working on a Master's degree at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City. John and Haley have three children and reside in central St. Joseph.

John says, "My goal in life is to teach people how great God is. Whether it is through music, teaching, or simply goofing around with teenagers, I want people to experience the amazing gift that God has for them through a relationship with Jesus. I've learned that Christianity isn't about being restrained by rules, it's about true freedom; it's about living a full life and knowing that in the end it will count for something."

In October 2009 John was recalled to active duty in the Army and is currently serving a one year tour in Iraq. In the meantime his duties at KHBC are being handled by Kim Blaylock (worship) and Mike Moeck (youth) plus a few other volunteers. We deeply appreciate the work they're doing, but still eagerly await John's safe return. Please remember to pray for John's safety and that of all our service men & women who are in harm's way.
